Call to Order The Vice Chair called the meeting to order at 10:04 a.m. 2. Land Acknowledgement The Committee acknowledged that the meeting took place on Anishinaabe lands, the traditional and treaty territory of the Chippewas of Georgina Island, recognizing the many other Nations whose presence here continues to this day, the special relationship the Chippewas have with the lands and waters of this Property Standards Committee 2 Thursday, June 27, 2024 territory, and that Aurora has shared responsibility for the stewardship of these lands and waters. It was noted that Aurora is part of the treaty lands of the Mississaugas and Chippewas, recognized through Treaty #13 and the Williams Treaties of 1923. 3. Approval of the Agenda Moved By Balpreet Grewal Seconded By Maricella Sauceda That the agenda as circulated by Legislative Services be approved. Carried 4. Declarations of Pecuniary Interest and General Nature Thereof There were no declarations of pecuniary interest under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. M.50. 5. Appeals for Consideration 5.1 15269 Bathurst Street - Order to Comply CE20240469 The Chair provided an overview of the hearing process. Ashmeed, Khan, Bylaw Enforcement and Licensing Officer/Town Case Presenter provided evidence including a synopsis of the events leading to the hearing, the details of the Order to Comply issued on April 30, 2024, and exterior photos of the condition of the garage structure, outdoor green shed, all yards, and the dwelling on the subject property. The Town Case Presenter advised that the inspection of subject property was complaint driven specifically regarding the broken roof and missing shingles on the dwelling and shed causing a safety concern. It was mentioned that the appellant has applied for a demolition permit pending approvals which have been requested by the Town. The Appellant provided a verbal account of the events leading up to the hearing noting that clean up and remediation is in progress and that the required approvals for the demolition permit are being obtained. They expressed interest to continue to remediate the required structures and noted that the Order be rescinded, due to pending approvals for the Property Standards Committee 3 Thursday, June 27, 2024 demolition permit and potential repeated costs as they intent to demolish in the future. The Committee inquired about the timelines of the current demolition permit, the history of any previous permits, and further sought clarification from the appellant about any alternative plans for the property besides demolition. The Committee recessed the hearing to deliberate at 10:51 a.m. and reconvened the hearing at 11:11 a.m. The Committee concluded that the Order to Comply CE20240469 will be upheld and stated that the Appellant must make the necessary repairs of the structures as noted in the Order as the current conditions pose a safety and security hazard and that the Order is not contingent to any demolition that is planned for the property. The Committee extended the compliance deadline to September 3, 2024.
