RE: Request for funding: Food Bank; Single Parents’Focus Group;
Mental Health Gala sponsorship
The Salvation Army, Northridge Community Church was pleased to have
received $3000.00 in Spring 2024 for the community garden. The garden is in
full growth and 22 families are reaping the benefits. (come by and see it!)
I am now applying for $2000.00 for three other projects that will occur in Fall
2024. Each are distinct but all support the needs of invidividuals and families
living with Aurora, ON.
FOOD BANK:
The Salvation Army, Northridge Community Church has a weekly supplementary
food bank to families/individuals and homeless persons.. Many come monthly
while others book appointments when needs arise. On average we provide food
to 180 people per month.
Food donations come from community/church members; businesses and two
delivery trucks coming from the York Region Food Bank and The Salvation Army.
The majority of food received are non-perishable canned/boxed items. What is
often missing is dairy/egg products. When these products are not received we
often will purchase as it is our opinion that these basic food items are a necessity
for many of our clients.
$500.00 of the requested funds will be put towards dairy/egg purchases during
Fall 2024.
SINGLE PARENTS’FOCUS GROUP (mothers):
It is noted that many of the clients we serve in the food bank and during our
Christmas toy program are single mother homes.
In order to support these mothers we will hosting a 12-week “Empowered Mom’s”
program that includes videos, journalling and discussion. Topics include:
Emotional Health, Wellness, Financial Stability, and Parenting.
Page 2
Empowered Moms is a Christian based program that welcomes people of all
faiths and life experiences. The group will start on September 24 th and run till
December 10. At the end of the program we will evaluate for a future session to
start in Spring 2025.
$500.00 of the requested funds will go to support the cost of the material; dinner
and childcare provided; and special gifts to mom’s on completion of program.
MENTAL HEALTH GALA SEPTEMBER 19
The Salvation Army will be hosting the second annual Mental Health GALA on
Thursday, September 19, 2024 in Aurora at 15338 Leslie Street.
Funds generated from this event will increase our capacity to provide mental
health services to support youth, adults and seniors. On staff we have 2 paid
psycotherapists who provide individual and group therapy at no cost – or low cost
- depending on the client’s resources
Last year’s gala raised $33,000.00. In order to ensure a greater success of this
years’ gala we need sponsors and donors to reduce the costs associated for the
event.
$1000.00 of the requested funds will go towards a sponsorship of the Mental
Health Gala.
