1. Call to Order
The Deputy Town Clerk called the meeting to order at 6:11 p.m.
Linda Duringer assumed the Chair at 6:14 p.m.
The Committee recessed the hearing to deliberate at 6:39 p.m. and reconvened
the hearing at 6:46 p.m.
1.1 Appointment of the Chair

1.2 Appointment of the Vice Chair

1. That Tom Plamondon be elected as Vice Chair for a two-year term
(2023-2024) of the Aurora Appeal Tribunal and Property Standards
Committee.

2. Land Acknowledgement
The Committee acknowledged that the Hearing took place on the Anishinaabe
lands, the traditional and Treaty #20 territories of the Chippewas of Georgina
Island, recognizing the many other Nations whose presence here continues to
this day, and that Aurora has shared responsibility for the stewardship of this
land. It was noted that Aurora is part of the treaty lands of the Mississaugas of
the Credit, recognized through Treaty #13 and the Williams Treaties of 1923.

There were no declarations of pecuniary interest under the Municipal Conflict of

5. Appeals for Consideration
5.1 6 Conklin Crescent - Order to Comply CE20220809
The Chair provided an overview of the hearing process.
Alexander Wray, Manager of By-law Services/Case Presenter for the Town,
presented evidence including the Order to Comply, a synopsis of the
events leading to the hearing and exterior photos of the subject property.
They advised that neither of the original Orders from September 1, 2022

were picked up from the post office, and that the Order issued under
Section 15(2) of the Building Code Act was not appealed. Following this, a
third party engineer conducted an inspection of the dwelling and provided
the Town with a report outlining its safety. On March 7, 2023, a second
Order to Comply was issued to the registered property owner.
The Appellant provided a verbal account of the events leading up to the
hearing noting that they had been in contact with the insurance company
since the fire in June 2020 and were currently in litigation. They requested
more time to comply with the Order due to ongoing criminal investigation
and civil claim.
The Committee inquired about communication between the Town and the
Appellant, demolition options, preferred timelines, and expected outcomes
of the litigation.
