1. Call to Order
The Vice Chair called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
2. Land Acknowledgement
The Committee acknowledged that the meeting took place on Anishinaabe lands,
the traditional and treaty territory of the Chippewas of Georgina Island,
recognizing the many other Nations whose presence here continues to this day,
the special relationship the Chippewas have with the lands and waters of this
territory, and that Aurora has shared responsibility for the stewardship of these
lands and waters. It was noted that Aurora is part of the treaty lands of the

Mississaugas and Chippewas, recognized through Treaty #13 and the Williams
Treaties of 1923.

7. Matters for Consideration
7.1 Memorandum from Recreation Supervisor - Community Programs; Re:
Recreation Needs Assessment for Persons with Disabilities
Franco DeMarco provided a brief overview of the project scope and
timelines and introduced the consultants. Jodi Ball and Gabrielle Peters of
J Consulting Group facilitated the discussion and invited Committee
members to share their experiences and ideas on recreation programs

and inclusivity, the planning and delivery of programs, how to plan in
advance and address barriers, adaptive equipment and technology,
support staff qualifications, program awareness, modes and transparency
of communication, and project engagement and approach.

1. That the memorandum regarding Recreation Needs Assessment for
Persons with Disabilities be received; and
2. That the Accessibility Advisory Committee comments regarding
Recreation Needs Assessment for Persons with Disabilities be
received and referred to staff for consideration and further action as
appropriate.

7.2 Round Table Discussion; Re: Town of Aurora Multi-Year Accessibility Plan
2022-2026

Staff provided an update on various matters including: (1) proposed
updates to the Plan including the staff position and contact information to
facilitate resident feedback, the inclusion of current Committee member
names, and the update of two sections respecting Procedures for
Preventative and Emergency Maintenance and Procedures for Dealing
with Temporary Disruptions; (2) accessibility compliance reporting to the
Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility, and website accessibility; and (3)
the Town’s recently updated Official Plan and sections relevant to
accessibility policies and universal design related to community
involvement, roads, built cultural heritage, parkland policies, and
community services and facilities design.
The Committee and staff discussed the process for reporting and
managing disruptions, and options to encourage and remind private
organizations to implement and maintain accessibility on their properties.
