1. Call to Order
The Vice Chair called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m.
2. Land Acknowledgement
The Committee acknowledged that the meeting took place on Anishinaabe lands,
the traditional and treaty territory of the Chippewas of Georgina Island,
recognizing the many other Nations whose presence here continues to this day,
the special relationship the Chippewas have with the lands and waters of this
territory, and that Aurora has shared responsibility for the stewardship of these
lands and waters. It was noted that Aurora is part of the treaty lands of the
Mississaugas and Chippewas, recognized through Treaty #13 and the Williams
Treaties of 1923.

7. Matters for Consideration
7.1 Memorandum from Accessibility Advisor; Re: Site Plan Application CDM-
2023-02 (Submission #1), 115, 135 and 155 Addison Hall Circle
Staff provided an overview of the site plan and comments submitted to
the Planner on behalf of the Committee. The Committee and staff
discussed various aspects of the site plan and further suggestions were
made regarding consideration for: two additional barrier-free parking
spaces in the proximity of units C10 and C11; and ensure automatic doors
do not impede on access to the automatic door operator buttons.

referred to staff for consideration and further action as appropriate.

7.2 Memorandum from Accessibility Advisor; Re: Site Plan Application SP(EX)-
2023-01 (Submission #1), 1 Henderson Drive
Staff provided an overview of the site plan and comments submitted to
the Planner on behalf of the Committee. The Committee and staff
discussed various aspects of the site plan and a further suggestion was
made regarding consideration for: ensure any potential tripping hazards
are identified and clearly visible with control measures in place.

7.3 Memorandum from Accessibility Advisor; Re: Site Plan Application SP-
2022-09 (Submission #2), 1588 St. John’s Sideroad (Blocks 3 and 4)
Staff provided an overview of the site plan and comments to be submitted
to the Planner on behalf of the Committee. The Committee and staff
discussed various aspects of the site plan and further suggestions were
made regarding consideration for: eliminate curb cuts and extend ramps
or build sidewalk across loading access areas including high contrast
markings on ground to denote a continuous path of travel; enclose the

space at the bottom of stairways; and clarify/provide access to upper
levels.

7.4 Memorandum from Accessibility Advisor; Re: Site Plan Application SP-
2020-08 (Submission #3), 1588 St. John’s Sideroad (Blocks 5 and 6)
Staff provided an overview of the site plan and comments to be submitted
to the Planner on behalf of the Committee. The Committee and staff
discussed various aspects of the site plan and further suggestions were
made regarding consideration for: enclose the space at the bottom of
stairways; clarify/provide access to upper levels; provide larger
washrooms; have washroom doors open outward toward wall if possible;
and ensure minimum turning radius inside washroom does not include
door path if door cannot open outward.

7.5 Round Table Discussion; Re: Town of Aurora Multi-Year Accessibility Plan
2022-2026

Staff provided an update on the accessibility audit completed by
AccessNow, which included a review of eight Town facilities: Stronach
Aurora Recreation Complex; Aurora Family Leisure Complex; Aurora
Community Centre; Town Hall; Joint Operations Centre; Petch House;
Aurora Seniors’ Centre; and Lind Realty Team Sports Dome; which will be
verified on the AccessNow platform by May 29, 2023. It was noted that
other facilities, parks, and trails will be reviewed next year.
Staff provided an update on the events of National AccessAbility Week
being celebrated from May 28 to June 3, 2023.
The Committee inquired about the opportunity to review the site plan for
Aurora Town Square, and staff agreed to include this information at the
next meeting.
The Committee and staff discussed various matters including: the
Committee’s opportunities, and missed opportunities, to provide input on
Town projects such as Aurora Town Square at early stages of the project;
encouraging and enabling local businesses to be accessible through
education, videos and toolkit; grants and fundraising options; providing
Town online resources; and future open houses to engage the community
and gain feedback on the needs of the community.

The Committee inquired about the calendar of events for National AccessAbility
Week, and staff agreed to provide information to the members.
The Committee inquired about items to be purchased for the accessible sensory
tents, and staff agreed to provide an update at the next meeting.
