1. Call to Order
The Chair called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.
2. Land Acknowledgement
The Committee acknowledged that the meeting took place on Anishinaabe lands,
the traditional and treaty territory of the Chippewas of Georgina Island,
recognizing the many other Nations whose presence here continues to this day,
the special relationship the Chippewas have with the lands and waters of this
territory, and that Aurora has shared responsibility for the stewardship of these
lands and waters. It was noted that Aurora is part of the treaty lands of the
Mississaugas and Chippewas, recognized through Treaty #13 and the Williams
Treaties of 1923.

7. Matters for Consideration
7.1 Memorandum from Associate Manager of Development Planning; Re:
Heritage Permit Application HPA-2024-01 - 59 Catherine Avenue
Staff provided an overview of the proposed alterations to 59 Catherine
Avenue, a designated heritage property, which includes alterations to
windows at the rear addition of the property. The Committee discussed
the property and confirmed the rear addition was non-original and built in
1969. Staff ensured that the alterations would not impact the original
heritage building, and that the proposed work qualifies for delegated
approval.

2024-01 – 59 Catherine Avenue be received; and
2. That the Heritage Advisory Committee comments regarding Heritage
Permit Application HPA-2024-01 – 59 Catherine Avenue be received
and referred to staff for consideration and further action as
appropriate.

7.2 Memorandum from Senior Landscape Architect and Associate Manager of
Development Planning; Re: Tree Removal Permit - 15342 Yonge Street
(Horton Place)
Staff provided an overview of the proposed tree removal at 15342 Yonge
Street and outlined that the tree was not planted originally with the primary
heritage building. Parks staff also reviewed the tree and determined that
the tree poses sightline concerns from the property to Yonge Street, and a
public safety concern. The Committee discussed the proposed tree
removal permit and location, including the replacement cost. Staff
ensured that the cost to replace the tree will be compensated for as
appropriate, and that it is the intent to replace the tree with an appropriate
native species deciduous re-planting further set back from the street.

9. New Business
The Committee discussed various topics related to heritage sites including: how
the Town's Official Plan incorporates the newly designated addresses and
developing an interactive mapping and research project to display heritage
properties and information. The Committee expressed interest in this project and
potential involvement with local high school students to conduct research and
provide an engagement opportunity with the community. The Committee and
staff suggested holding a meeting on March 18, 2024, to continue discussion on
this project and pursue related next steps.
