MINUTES - Council - 19090111F I R S T M E E T I N G 0 F T H E C 0 U N C I L F 0 R 1 S 0 9 The first meeting of the Council for 1909 was held in the Council Room on Honday January 11th at 11 o'clock A. M. The following members presented themselves and after signing the declarations of Office took their seats;-namely~ w. J. Baldwin, Mayor. w. J. Knowles, Reeve. Councillors, John Bond, W. J. Bassett, George t, Browning,and William Hastings. The Clerk introduced the Council to the Mayor and business was at once proceeded with. Communications were received and read from, The Clerk informing the Council that only five Members had been elected to the Council at the recent B;lection for the Municipality and it would be necessary to hold an election for a sixth Councilman The Bell Telephone Company making request to repair certain poles on Yongre and Welllhngton streets. The Mayor of Oshawa in regard to Lesislation Re Sewage and enclosig aresolution regarding the matter. Bills were received from 'l'he Aurora Banner, Printing- S. H. Lundy, Premium on Treasurers Bond ----10.00 Moved by Mr Bassett seconded by Mr Hastings that the following bills be paid that the Mayor issue orders on the Treasurer for the same and that the seal of the Corporation be attached tothis resolution, The Aurora Banner --~12.60. Carried, Moved by Mr knowles seconded by Mr Browning that the Clerk be and is hereby instructed to hold a Nomination for the election of a sixth Councilman for this Munilicipality on Monday January 25th in the Council Room at 7,30 o'clock in the eveni.ng. Carried, Moved by Mr Bond seconderd by Mr Knowles that the following be a Commit tee to strike the standing Commit tee.s for the current year, t11e Mayor, Reeve and Councillors Bond and Browning, Carried, Moved by Mr Knowles seconded by Mr bond that the f'ollowine: be a Committee to confer with T, H. Lennox M. P. P. in regard to drafting a bill for the Consolidation of the floting debt of this municipality and presen;jl the same to the Legi.slature;-namely, the Mayor, Reeve and Counci.llors Bond Bassett, Browni.ng,, Hastings and Querrie. Carried, Leave was asked to introduce By-Laws to appoint Auditors to audit the Jo.::J Municipal and School accounts for the year 1908, To appoint a Jo'-f (-'\ S o J-High School Trustee, A Local Board of Health and to borrow money to ... ·_. :: meet the current expendi.ture of the Municipality until the taxes are collected, Leave granted and by-laws read a first time, Moved by Mr Browning seconded by Mr Knowlearithat the by-laws now bel6 before the Council be read a second and third time this day and that rule 33 of by-law No 10 be suspended for that purpose, Carried. I I I I l ,i Minutes of first meeting continued. Bylaws read a second time and Council .went into Committee of the whole en the same Mr Bond in the· chair. Committee rose and reported by-laws with blanks filled and recommended the third reading of the by-laws, Bylaws read a third time and passed. Council adjourned to meet on Monday evening January 18th, 1909.
