Staff provided an overview of the site plan and comments submitted to
the Planner on behalf of the Committee, noting the developer's responses
to the previous submission. The Committee and staff discussed various
aspects of the site plan application and a further suggestion was made
regarding consideration for: assurance regarding provision of an adequate
turning radius in the main universal washrooms.

Staff presented a detailed budget sheet for the Committee's operating
budget and provided a status update on the accessibility projects
including: behaviour management training for staff and camp counsellors;
automatic door operators at the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex and
Aurora Seniors Centre; two-year subscription renewal for the BrowseAloud
assistive technology software; staff member laptop software; Aurora
Seniors Centre emergency exit platform, ramp and rails; and two portable
folding ramps for special events. The Committee and staff discussed
possible options for acquiring or building portable folding ramps.
Staff provided a status update on capital budget projects including: staff
feedback on the Facility Accessibility Design Standards (FADS) including
curb depression options, which were discussed by the Committee and
staff; the Information and Communications Standard and RFP for website
documentation remediation services; and RFP for software to ensure
Town documents meet the PDF/UA standard and Web Content
Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) compliance.
Staff provided an update on National AccessAbility Week, being held May
30 to June 5, 2021, and the associated resources and activities that are
planned. Committee members were invited to provide input and feedback.
Staff advised that an update on the current Accessibility Plan was recently
presented to Council who expressed appreciation for the work done by the
Committee. Staff noted the Accessibility Plan requires updating and a
draft version for 2022-2026 will be available for Committee input in
September 2021.
Staff referred to the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex facility review
video and the Committee and staff discussed various matters and options
including: noise dampening devices and quiet rooms; accessibility
improvements to changerooms, washrooms, doorways and arena board
systems; flickering lights; and devices to save electrical energy. Staff
noted that the Aurora Community Centre facility review video would soon
be available for review and discussion at the next meeting.
The Committee inquired about the accessibility features of a new eating
area planned for a parkette on Yonge Street and staff agreed to
investigate further.

Background
The Accessibility Advisor has made comments on behalf of the Accessibility Advisory
Committee.
The comments are as follows:
Automatic door openers for all public access locations, including proper timed
door delays;
Installation of proper tactile indicators at the proposed staircases;
Consideration for emergency evacuation chairs to be provided at all staircase
locations;
Please note that the number of parking spaces must be divided equally between
parking spaces that meet the requirements of a Type A parking space and a Type
B parking space, but the additional parking space, the odd-numbered space, may
be a Type B parking space. O. Reg. 413/12, s. 6;
Barrier-free parking on both P1 and P2 levels to be located closest to vestibule
entrances for elevator lobby;

The allocated outdoor space to have a minimum of 20% of its tables be

Please also note that there are new Design of Public Spaces (Built Environment)
Standards enacted from the Province of Ontario, under the Accessibility for Ontarians
with Disabilities Act and revisions to the Ontario Building Code to help standardize and
encourage barrier free access.

Hello Brashanthe.
Please accept this letter as our response to the current comments received from Planning and
Building Department.
Item 1 Enlarged View of Relocated Barrier Free Spaces
Please accept the images below of the relocated parking spaces with dimensions. These
enlarged views are from the submitted Site Plan drawing, but have been revised to show
dimensions in compliance with the Building Department comments.
In addition to this response, we have updated the A0.1 Site Plan to include the actual
compliance dimensions. The current Barrier Free spaces will have their dimensions
brought into compliance with the new line painting and provision of symbol markings.
Item 2 Comments from Building Department
In response to the comments from the Building Department, the proposed dimensions are
shown in Image 4 below. It is the intent that all line painting be refreshed soon, pending
this application process. Therefore, the required striping & symbols can be provided in
compliance to the comments, complying to dimensions shown.
On site confirmed are the sizes and the standard stalls (5.3m x 2.7m) and the relocated
Barrier Free spaces, once painted will approximately 3.65m in width x 5.3m in depth;
provision of 1.5m space in between as well.
