MINUTES - Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Advisory Committee - 20140116 TOWN OF AURORA PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Date: Thursday, January 16, 2014 Time and Location: 7 p.m., Leksand Room, Aurora Town Hall Committee Members: Councillor Chris Ballard (Chair), Councillor Wendy Gaertner (Vice Chair), Gordon Barnes, Juergen Daurer, and Ron Weese Member(s) Absent: John Clement and Greg Smith Other Attendees: Al Downey, Director of Parks and Recreation Services, and Linda Bottos, Council/Committee Secretary The Chair called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. DECLARATIONS OF PECUNIARY INTEREST There were no declarations of pecuniary interest under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act. CARRIED DELEGATIONS None MATTERS FOR CONSIDERATION None INFORMATIONAL ITEMS 1. Aurora Family Leisure Complex Fitness Centre Membership Summary Report Moved by Gordon Barnes Seconded by Councillor Gaertner THAT the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee receive the Aurora Family Leisure Complex Fitness Centre Membership Summary Report for information. CARRIED 2. Parks and Recreation Master Plan – Executive Summary Update Moved by Juergen Daurer Seconded by Ron Weese THAT the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee receive the Parks and Recreation Master Plan – Executive Summary Update; and THAT Council be provided with the Parks and Recreation Master Plan – Executive Summary Update for information. CARRIED 4. Arboretum News – Fall/Winter 2013/2014 Moved by Juergen Daurer Seconded by Ron Weese THAT the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee receive Arboretum News – Fall/Winter 2013/2014 for information. CARRIED 5. Pending List – Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Moved by Councillor Gaertner Seconded by Juergen Daurer THAT the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee receive the updated Pending List for information. CARRIED 6. Notice of Meetings Relevant to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee – Discussion (Added Item) Moved by Juergen Daurer Seconded by Ron Weese THAT the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee receive the discussion regarding Notice of Meetings Relevant to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee for information. CARRIED Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes Thursday, January 16, 2014 Page 4 of 4 NEW BUSINESS Gordon Barnes noted that the year 2017 will be the sesquicentennial year for Canada which should be a significant event in the Town and suggested it would require at least one to one and one-half years of planning. He stated that he has previously mentioned this to several Councillors and suggested it would be a good idea to start thinking about this event before the current Council term ends. Councillor Gaertner inquired whether there would be a public report on the ice storm damage to the municipal trees regarding the cost and impact on the Town’s tree canopy. The Director of Parks and Recreation Services advised that his department had provided information to the Treasurer who submitted the damage details and costs to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. The Director suggested that the Treasurer be contacted regarding the tree damage costs and that Jim Kyle, Project Manager, Special Projects, be contacted regarding the impact on the tree canopy. Councillor Ballard suggested that the Treasurer be requested to include a report on the next General Committee agenda.
