NEW BUSINESS
Gordon Barnes noted that the year 2017 will be the sesquicentennial year for Canada which
should be a significant event in the Town and suggested it would require at least one to one
and one-half years of planning. He stated that he has previously mentioned this to several
Councillors and suggested it would be a good idea to start thinking about this event before
the current Council term ends.
Councillor Gaertner inquired whether there would be a public report on the ice storm
damage to the municipal trees regarding the cost and impact on the Town’s tree canopy.
The Director of Parks and Recreation Services advised that his department had provided
information to the Treasurer who submitted the damage details and costs to the Ministry of
Municipal Affairs and Housing. The Director suggested that the Treasurer be contacted
regarding the tree damage costs and that Jim Kyle, Project Manager, Special Projects, be
contacted regarding the impact on the tree canopy. Councillor Ballard suggested that the
Treasurer be requested to include a report on the next General Committee agenda.
