MINUTES - Heritage Advisory Committee - 20140414 TOWN OF AURORA HERITAGE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Date: Monday, April 14, 2014 Time and Location: 7 p.m., Holland Room, Aurora Town Hall Committee Members: Councillor John Abel (Chair), Councillor Sandra Humfryes (Vice Chair), David Heard, Bob McRoberts, and Jacqueline Stuart Members Absent: Erina Kelly and John McIntyre Other Attendees: Vanessa Hicks, Program Manager, Heritage Planning, and Linda Bottos, Council/Committee Secretary The Chair called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. DECLARATION OF PECUNIARY INTEREST There were no declarations of pecuniary interest under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Moved by Jacqueline Stuart Seconded by Bob McRoberts THAT the agenda as circulated by Legal and Legislative Services be approved. CARRIED ADOPTION OF MINUTES Heritage Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes of March 17, 2014 Moved by Councillor Humfryes Seconded by Bob McRoberts THAT the minutes of the Heritage Advisory Committee meeting of March 17, 2014 be adopted. HAC14-012 – Review of By-law Number 4952-07.R designating “The John W. Knowles House” under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act and By- law 5375-11 designating the “John W. Knowles House” under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act Moved by David Heard Seconded by Councillor Humfryes THAT report HAC14-012 be received; and THAT the Heritage Advisory Committee recommend to Council: THAT this item be referred back to staff to consult with the current property owner, research the property history, and report back to the Heritage Advisory Committee at a future meeting. CARRIED 2. HAC14-013 – Request for Member of the Heritage Advisory Committee To Be Appointed to the Southeast Old Aurora Heritage Conservation District Study Sub-Committee Moved by Councillor Humfryes Seconded by Jacqueline Stuart THAT report HAC14-013 be received; and THAT the Heritage Advisory Committee recommend to Council: THAT Bob McRoberts be appointed to the Southeast Old Aurora Heritage Conservation District Study Sub-Committee. HAC14 -011 – Salvaged Architectural Materials from the Colyton Farmhouse for Re-use On-site Heritage Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes Monday, April 14, 2014 Page 3 of 5 Moved by Councillor Humfryes Seconded by Jacqueline Stuart THAT report HAC14-011 be received for information. CARRIED 4. Memorandum from the Program Manager, Heritage Planning Re: Heritage Status of Properties from Ridge Road to Henderson Drive Moved by Bob McRoberts Seconded by Councillor Humfryes THAT the memorandum regarding Heritage Status of Properties from Ridge Road to Henderson Drive be received; and THAT the Heritage Advisory Committee recommend to Council: THAT staff obtain as much information as possible regarding the property known municipally as 14452 Yonge Street and report back to the Heritage Advisory Committee at a future meeting. CARRIED 5. Memorandum from the Program Manager, Heritage Planning Re: Doors Open Aurora 2014 Moved by Councillor Humfryes Seconded by Jacqueline Stuart THAT the memorandum regarding Doors Open Aurora 2014 be received for information. Extract from Council Meeting of March 18, 2014 Re: HAC14-001 – Southeast Old Aurora Heritage Conservation District Study Phase 1 Report Moved by Bob McRoberts Seconded by Councillor Humfryes THAT the Extract from Council Meeting of March 18, 2014 regarding HAC14-001 – Southeast Old Aurora Heritage Conservation District Study Phase 1 Report be received for information. Extract from Council Meeting of April 8, 2014 Re: HAC14-03 – Heritage Advisory Committee Report, March 17, 2014 Moved by Bob McRoberts Seconded by Councillor Humfryes THAT the Extract from Council Meeting of April 8, 2014 regarding HAC14-03 – Heritage Advisory Committee Report, March 17, 2014 be received for information. CARRIED 8. Pending List – Heritage Advisory Committee Moved by Councillor Humfryes Seconded by Bob McRoberts THAT the Pending List be received for information. CARRIED NEW BUSINESS Mr. Heard referred to the fire at the Aurora United Church and inquired whether there was some way in which the Heritage Advisory Committee could be of assistance to the Church. Moved by David Heard Seconded by Councillor Humfryes THAT the Heritage Advisory Committee recommend to Council: THAT the Town of Aurora and the Heritage Advisory Committee provide leadership, assistance, and non-monetary resources toward the rebuilding of the Aurora United Church. CARRIED The Program Manager, Heritage Planning noted that, in February 2013, Council adopted a recommendation to designate the Aurora Armoury. She advised that a notice was published more than thirty days ago and the designation by-law would soon be submitted for Council’s approval.
