1.Memorandum from Accessibility Advisor
Re:2016-2022 Accessibility Plan
Staff provided an overview of the 2016-2022 Accessibility Plan which included
capital initiatives and past accomplishments.The Committee suggested that a
feedback form be created in the New Year to receive comments or suggestions
from residents regarding the Town’s Accessibility Plan.They further suggested
that the Town’s Operations Centre,Aurora Armoury,Aurora Public Library,and
parks and trails be included in future Accessibility Plans,and that a definition of
“disability”be included in the plan to increase the awareness of invisible
disabilities.

2.Correspondence from Regional Clerk,York Region
Re:York Region’s Review and Update of 2015-2021 Multi-Year
Accessibility Plan
Staff indicated that this multi-year accessibility plan complies with both the
Ontarians with Disabilities Act (ODA),which requires municipalities with a
population over 10,000 people to compile a yearly plan,and the Accessibility for
Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA),which requires a multi-year plan.

2015-2021 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan be received for information.

7.NEW BUSINESS
The Committee inquired about the pending list and requested that it be included on the
agenda moving forward to outline short term goals and track accomplishments.
The Committee noted that residents have attended Wheelchair Dancing at the Magna
Centre offered by the Town of Newmarket,and inquired if a similar program can be
offered at the Town.Staff indicated that gym space is available to offer a variety of
programs.
The Committee discussed the next scheduled meeting and agreed that unless there
are any items requiring consideration,the January 6,2016 meeting should be
cancelled.

RECOMMENDATIONS
THAT the memorandum regarding Mattamy Phase 4 Playground Accessibility
Review be received;and
THAT the Accessibility Advisory Committee provide comments regarding
accessibility for the Mattamy Phase 4 Playground.
BACKGROUND
Attached is a site plan of the Mattamy Phase 4 Playground in the 2C development.This
is a small proposed subdivision of around 50 lots on a cul-de-sac street at Leslie and St.
John’s Sideroad.The playground graphics identify the Annex H information in red text,
which describes the specific accessibility components of the playground.Additional
points to note:
•A seating wall is provided around half the perimeter of the playground.
•2 benches are provided at the trail access to the playground
•A concrete accessibility ramp is provided into the playground from the trail
•Playground safety material wood chip mulch is wheelchair accessible.
•The trail material to the playground is asphalt paving.
•There will be a drop-curb at the road where the trail entrance is located.
Comments and feedback from the Accessibility Advisory Committee are required to
further determine accessible considerations for the playground.

RE:2016 Community Recognition Awards
RECOMMENDED
THAT the memorandum regarding the 2016 Community Recognition Awards be
received for information.
BACKGROUND
In the fall of 2015,Council appointed a Community Recognition Review Ad Hoc Committee
to review the structure,format and content of the Town’s Community Recognition Awards.
Based on the Committee’s recommendations,Council recently approved a revised format
for the 2016 Awards that includes a number of new Award categories including the
Accessibility Award.
The Accessibility Award is awarded to an individual,group or business that has contributed
to the elimination of barriers for people with disabilities in Aurora.
In support of the initiative,the Community Recognition Review Advisory Committee has
requested that the Accessibility Advisory Committee assist in promoting the 2016
Community Recognition Awards as well as encouraging the nomination of individuals,
groups or local businesses that warrant consideration for the Accessibility Award.
