MINUTES - Accessibility Advisory Committee - 20140507 TOWN OF AURORA ACCESSIBILITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Date: Wednesday, May 7, 2014 Time and Location: 7 p.m., Leksand Room, Aurora Town Hall Committee Members: John Lenchak (Chair), Tyler Barker (Vice Chair), Leonard Fox, and Helen Kogan (arrived 7:24 p.m.) Member(s) Absent: Councillor Wendy Gaertner Other Attendees: Sheena Vert, Interpreter, Chris Catania, Accessibility Advisor, and Patty Thoma, Council & Committee Coordinator/Deputy Clerk The Chair called the meeting to order at 7:13 p.m. DECLARATION OF PECUNIARY INTEREST There were no declarations of pecuniary interest under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Moved by Tyler Barker Seconded by Leonard Fox THAT the agenda as circulated by Legal and Legislative Services be approved. CARRIED Accessibility Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes Wednesday, May 7, 2014 Page 2 of 5 ADOPTION OF MINUTES Accessibility Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes of April 2, 2014 Moved by Leonard Fox Seconded by Tyler Barker THAT the minutes of the Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting of April 2, 2014 be adopted. CARRIED DELEGATIONS None MATTERS FOR CONSIDERATION 1. Memorandum from the Planner Re: Application for Site Plan Review (Submission #2) 213-229 Industrial Parkway North Plan 65M-2718 Block 7 File No. D11-01-13 Moved by Leonard Fox Seconded by Helen Kogan THAT the memorandum regarding Application for Site Plan Review (Submission #2), 213-229 Industrial Parkway North, Plan 65M-2718 Block 7, File No. D11-01-13 be received; and THAT the Accessibility Advisory Committee recommend to Council: THAT consideration be given, where feasible, to access points at the north end of the building; and THAT the Accessibility Advisor resubmit to Planning and Development Services the following recommendations, approved by Council on February 11, 2014: THAT consideration be given for all entrance and/or exit doors to be barrier-free; and THAT consideration be given for all washrooms to be barrier-free; and THAT consideration be given to men’s and women’s locker rooms, lunchroom, and washrooms maintaining accessible width and clearance and to be barrier-free; and Accessibility Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes Wednesday, May 7, 2014 Page 3 of 5 THAT consideration be given to both visual and audible alarm systems being incorporated throughout the building; and THAT consideration be given for proper way-finding contrasting signage throughout the building; and THAT consideration be given to installing levered hardware on all doors within the building; and THAT Planning and Development Services forward these considerations to the Architect. Memorandum from the Accessibility Advisor Re: 2014 Municipal Election Accessibility Plan Moved by Leonard Fox Seconded by Helen Kogan THAT the memorandum regarding 2014 Municipal Election Accessibility Plan be received; and THAT the Accessibility Advisor consider the comments received from the Accessibility Advisory Committee to ensure that the 2014 Municipal Election is as accessible and barrier-free as possible. CARRIED 3. Memorandum from the Accessibility Advisor Re: Accessibility Advisory Committee Terms of Reference Moved by Tyler Barker Seconded by Leonard Fox THAT the memorandum regarding Accessibility Advisory Committee Terms of Reference be received; and THAT the Accessibility Advisor consider the comments received from the Accessibility Advisory Committee when reviewing and preparing the Terms of Reference for the 2014-2018 term of the Accessibility Advisory Committee. CAR RIED NEW BUSINESS Mr. Tyler Barker invited the Committee to attend at the Aurora Seniors’ Centre where he and Councillor Abel will be building “Stop Gap” ramps. He indicated that he would confirm the date and time in the near future.
