BEING A BY-LAW to regulate
and/or prohibit the use of
certain weapons in the Town
of Aurora.
WHEREAS the provisions of Section 119 of the Municipal Act, R.S.O., 2001, as
amended, authorizes the Town of Aurora to enact by-laws to prohibit and regulate
the discharge of guns and other firearms.
NOW THEREFORE THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF
THE TOWN OF AURORA ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. That no person shall discharge a gun, firearm, air gun, spring gun,
crossbow or long-bow or any class or type thereof in the Town of Aurora except in
accordance with this by-law.
2. Any person who is an owner or a resident tenant of a property in excess of 1
hectare in size, or a person who has received advanced written permission from
the person who is an owner or resident tenant of a property in excess of 1
hectare in size, is personally exempt from Section 1 of this By-law with regard to
the discharge of a firearm on the property of that owner or resident tenant for the
purpose of rodent control or protection of an animal owned by that owner or
resident tenant.
3. This By-law shall not apply to any police officer acting in the course of their
duty under the authority of their employment.
4. This By-law shall not apply to any person or organization that for ceremonial
or educational purposes has obtained advance written permission from the
Corporation of the Town of Aurora to perform any act otherwise prohibited under
this By-law.
5. Every person who contravenes a provision of this By-law is guilty of an offence
and upon conviction is liable to a fine pursuant to the provisions of the Provincial
Offences Act, as amended.
6. By-law 3403-92 be is hereby repealed.
7. This By-law shall come into force and effect upon third reading hereof.
