BEING A BY-LAW TO DESIGNATE THE PROPERTY
KNOWN MUNICIPALLY AS 54 YONGE STREET
NORTH AS BEING OF ARCHITECTURAL )\ND
HISTORICAL VALUE OR INTEREST
WHEREAS Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act, i 1980 authorizes the
Counc i 1 of a mun i c i pa 1 i ty to enact by-1 aws to de~ i gna te rea 1 property,
including all buildings and structures thereon, to be of architectural or
historic value or interest; and ,
WHEREAS Council of The Corporation of the Town of A~rora has caused to be
served on the owner of the lands and premises known! as Horton Place at 54
Yonge Street North, Aurora, and upon the Ontario Heritage Foundation, notice
of intention to so designate the aforesaid real property and has caused such
notice of intention to be published in a newspaper having general
circulation in the municipality once for each of three! consecutive weeks; and
NOW THEREFORE the Municipal Council of the Corpo~ation of the Town of
Aurora enacts as follows:
1. There is designated as being of architectural and historical value
or interest the real property known as Horton Place, 54 Yonge
Street North more particularly described in $chedule 'A' hereto.
2. The reasons for designation of Horton Pl a~e at 54 Yonge Street
North are described in Schedule B hereto.
3. The municipal solicitor is hereby authoriz('!d to cause a copy of
this by-law to be registered against the i property described in
Schedule 'A' hereto in the proper land registry office.
4. The Clerk is hereby authorized to cause a ,copy of this by-law to
be served on the owner of the aforesai di property and on the
Ontario Heritage Foundation and to cause noitice of the passing of
this by-law to be published in a newspaper having general
circulation in the municipality once for ea~h of three consecutive
weeks.

All and Singular that certain parcel of land and premises situate lying and
being in the Town of Aurora, in The Regional Municfpality of York, (formerly
in the County of York), and being composed of all of Lot 14, according to a
Plan registered in the Registry Office for the R1egistry Division of York
Region as Number 246.

54 YONGE STREET NORTH
REASONS FOR DESIGNATION
The property known as Horton Place at 54 Yonge St'i'eet North is worthy of
designation for architectural and historical rea~ons. The house was
constructed in 1875 for Dr. Alfred Robinson, a dent!ist whose office was on
site. Clad in buff coloured brick, Horton Place i~ the finest undisturbed
example of the !tal ian style of architecture to bei found in Aurora. The
style is reflected in the square plan, hip ropf supported on heavy
ornamental brackets, and round headed openings. 'De 1 i cate iron cresting
appears on the main roofline and the verandah p~otecting the principal
entry. The symmetry of the whole is evident in the multiples of two; two
stories, two bay windows with two windows above eaich, two sets of French
doors, two balconies, a double-leaf front door with !a two pane transom, and
two verandahs on the main body. An enclosed consEirvatory appears on the
south end, while three entries (now sealed) on the 'north elevation lead to
the former office, the backstairs, and the wood~hed. Original wooden
louvered shutters enhance the fenestration. The orj gina l tongue-and-groove
barn stands to the rear of the property and traces of an ornamental iron
fence survive along the Yonge Street frontage.

All and singular that certain parcel or tract of land ahd premises situate,
lying and being in the Town of Aurora, in the Regiohal Municipality of
York, being part of Lot 14, acording to a Plan registered in the Registry
Office for the Registry Division of York Region (No.65) as Number 246 and
more particularly described as follows:-
COMMENCING at a
182 feet 8 inches
south-east corner
point in the Southerly limit of s~id Lot 14 distant
measured westerly along the said Sout~erly limit from the
of the said Lot;
THENCE NORTHERLY and parallel to the Easterly limit of the said Lot
214 feet 6 inches, more or less, to the Northerly limitiof the said Lot;
THENCE EASTERLY along the Northerly limit of said Lot t82 feet 8 inches to
the North-east corner of the said Lot 14;
THENCE SOUTHERLY along the Easterly limit of said Lot 14, being also the
existing Westerly limit of Yonge Street, a distance of 214 feet 6 inches to
the South-east corner of the said Lot;
THENCE WESTERLY along the Southerly limit of said Lot 182 feet 8 inches to
the point of commencement;
AND TOGETHER WITH that part of a small Parcel shown on filan 36 for the Town
of Aurora and registered .in the aforementioned Registry :office, which small
Parcel is marked "1 Link Reserved" on the North side of Irwin Avenue, and
also that part of the Parcel marked "A", both adjoining immediately to the
Southerly boundary of the above-described Parcel;
SAVE AND EXCEPT THEREFROM the lands and premises secondly described in
Registered Instrument Number 9845 for the Town of Auror~ and being part of
a small Parcel called "1 Link Reserved" on the North siae of Irwin Avenue,
and also a part of the Parcel marked "A" adjoining last mentioned parcel on
the North side as laid down on a Plan of building lots made by Peter S.
Gibson for one Richard Wells registered in the aforementioned Registry
Office as Plan 36, and also a part of Lot 14 according to registered
Plan 246 for the Town of Aurora, which said parcel or i tract of land and
premises is more particularly described as follows:
Commencing at a point in the Northerly limit of Irwin Avenue, being also
the Southerly limit of said small parcel called "1 Link Reserved", such
point being distant 182 feet 8 inches measured Westerly along the Northerly
limit of Irwin Avenue from the existing Westerly limit o~ Yonge Street;
Thence Northerly and parallel to the said Westerly limit of Yonge Street
102 feet 4 inches to a point where a wooden post has beeri planted;
Thence Easterly and parallel to the said Northerly limit of Irwin Avenue
50 feet to a point where a wooden post has been planted;
