BYLAW - Reward for Information Leading to Vandelism Conviction - 19791015 - 231179'-·-'-' .,, BY-LAW NO. 2311-79 OF THE MUNICIPAL CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF AURORA A By-Law to establish a reward payment for information when vandalism conviction is obtained. WHEREAS, vandalism to public property is costing the ratepayers of Aurora tax dollars to repair and rectify such damage, AND WHEREAS, the general public appears to take an indifferent attitude to such acts of vandalism that on many occasions such acts or circumstances are ignored or not reported to enable a charge to be laid against the offenders, AND WHEREAS it is deemed expedient to obtain such information on vandalism acts as readily as possible, AND WHEREAS the authority of Section 352 (41) of the Municipal Act Chapter 284 R.S.O. 1970 permits the payment of rewards by a Council for information leading to arrest and conviction of anyone guilty of an offence triable summarily or on indictment; NOW THEREFORE the Municipal Council of the Town of Aurora enacts as follows: 1. THAT, the Municipal Council of the Town of Aurora does hereby offer a reward in the amount of $5.00. 00 for information which leads to the apprehension and conviction of any person or persons, firm or corporation guilty of any vandalism or damage to any public property or to any municipal equipment, materials, signs, structures, trees, fences, walls on public property which is not voluntarily reported to the Town Clerk's office within two hours or if closed to the Town Answering Service leaving the particulars of such damage. 2. THAT, such person or persons supplying such information will be required to complete an application form for reward payment and such information contained therein will not become public. 3. THAT, the payment of a reward shall be determined by the Council following a conviction of such vandalism or damage and in the event of more than one applicant for such reward the Council shall be the sole judge of who should receive payment, but will consider all information available from police or enforcement authorities that was most important or timely in the conviction being obtained. 4. THAT, such payment of re\vards shall be paid from the general tax funds of the municipality and the Council in adopting its budget each year may budget an allowance for such payments but payments shall not be limited to such budget amount. 5. THAT, this By-la\v shall come into full force and effect upon final approval and publication thereof.
