BYLAW - Amend 1898 - 19710315 - 190871BY-LAW NUMBER 1908 -71 OF THE MUNICIPAL CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF AURORA A BY-LAW TO AMEND BY-LAW NUMBER 1898 BEING A BY-LAW TO PROVIDE AN INTERIM TAX LEVY AND THE COLLECTION THEREOF WHEREAS the Council 0£ the Corporation of the Town of Aurora deems it advisable to amend By~law Number 1898; THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE MUNICIPAL CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF AURORA ENACTS AS FOLLOWS.: 1. THAT Clause 2 of By-law Number 1898 be amended by deleting the words "equal to" and inserting in lieu thereof the words "not exceeding" so that Clause 2 of By-law Number 1898 shall read as follows: "THAT in order to provide money for municipal general purposes and educational quarterly levies prior to the adoption of the estimates for the year there shall be levied by the Area Municipality of the Town of Aurora an interim levy each year not exceeding that of applying rates of 50 per cent of the residential public school mill rate of the preceding year to the whole of the assessment for real property and business assessment according to the last revised assessment roll." 2. THAT Clause 3 of By-law Number 1898 be amended by deleting "March 17" and inserting in lieu thereof "March 31" so that Clause 3 of By-law Number 1898 shall read as follows: "NOTWITHSTANDING the provisions of any previous by-laws setting the time for payment of rates, taxes and assess- ment, the taxes levied under this by-law shall be collected in two instalments, the first instalment to be due .and payable on March 31; the second instalment to be due and payable on May 12; in this and any succeeding year until repealed. PROVIDED HOWEVER, that all arrears of rates, taxes and assessments levied and imposed in. any year prior to the current year plus penalties and interest thereon must be paid before any instalment of the taxes for the current year is paid and upon def~ult in payment of any instalment, the privilege of payment by instalments shall be forfeited and the subsequent instalment or instalments shall forth- with become payable." . . . ---'--'-""-'·.. -···---··-'--·-·. __ .· . .::__. -~. ~·.~·-"""'·~~.~~-----'·~·-· . THAT Clause 4 of By-law Number 1898 be amended by deleting the words "one half (1-2) per cent" and inserting in lieu th:ereof the words "one (1) per cent" so that Clause 4 of By-law Number 1898 shall read as follows: "ANY instalment or any part of any instalment of rates, taxes and assessments not paid on or before the day prescribed by Section 3 shall be subject to a penalty which shall be added to and collected with the rates, taxes and assessments and which shall be a percentage charge of one (1) per centum on the first day of default and a further one (1) per centum on the first day of each calendar month thereafter in which default continues in the year in which the interim taxes were levied. After December 31st of the year in which the interim taxes were levied the Treasurer shall add one (1) per cent on the first day of each calendar month to the taxes remaining unpaid." 4.
