BY-LAW NO. 3041
PROVIDING FOR THE ERECTION OF STOP SIGNS AT INTERSECTIONS
WHEREAS section 65 of the Highway Traffic Act (R.S.O. 1960 Chapter
172 and amendments thereto) provides that.-
65. In addition to stop signs required at intersections on
through highways,
(a) the Council of a municipality and the trustees of a
police village may by by-law approved by the Department
provide for the erection of stop signs at intersections
on highways under its jurisdiction;
AND WHEREAS section 64 of the Act provides that The driver or operator of a vehicle or car of an electric
railway,
a) upon approaching a stop sign at an intersection, shall
bring the vehicle or car to a full stop at a clearly
marked stop line or, if none, then immediately before
entering the nearest crosswalk or, if none, then
immediately before entering the intersection; and
b) upon entering the intersection, shall yield the right of
way to traffic in the intersection or approaching the
intersection on another highway so closely that it con-
stitutes an immediate hazard and having so yielded the
right of way may proceed with caution and the traffic
approaching the intersection on another highway shall
yield the, right of way to the vehicle so proceeding in
the intersection. '
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the County of York
enacts as follows:-
1. The intersections on highways under the jurisdiction of the
Corporation of the County of York, as described in Schedule
A attached hereto, are designated as intersections where
stop signs shall be erected at the locations described in
the said schedule.
2. This by-law shall not become effective until approved by the
Department of Transport and until signs are on display in
compliance with the regulations of the Department.
