MINUTES - Special Council - 19980714 TOWN OF AURORA SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING NO. 25-98 Council Chambers Aurora Town Hall Tuesday, July 14, 1998 7:00 p.m. ATTENDANCE COUNCIL MEMBERS Mayor Jones in the Chair; Councillors Griffith, Hartwell, Hogg, McKenzie, Morris, and West. Councillors Healy and Hinder were absent on vacation. STAFF MEMBERS Chief Administrative Officer, Director of Corporate Services, Treasurer, Revenue Co-ordinator and Council/Committee Secretary. DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST There were no declarations of interest under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act. APPROVAL OF AGENDA #463. Moved by Councillor Griffith Seconded by Councillor McKenzie THAT the content of the Agenda be approved as outlined herein with the addition of correspondence from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario regarding Tax Policy Deadlines – July 15th, and Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing regarding Regulation Made Under the Municipal Act for Tax Related Matters to the New Business section of the Agenda. CARRIED STAFF REPORTS TR98-016-170 re: 1998 Tax Ratios The Treasurer advised that the Province of Ontario passed a Regulation on July 13, 1998 to extend the deadline for establishing tax ratios. She indicated that additional information and analysis on tax ratios would be provided to Council for consideration at the next meeting to be held on July 23, 1998. Moved by Councillor McKenzie Seconded by Councillor Griffith THAT Report TR98-016-170 entitled “1998 Tax Ratios “ be received; THAT the 1998 tax ratio for the Residential/Farm Property Class be 1.0000; THAT the 1998 tax ratio for the Multi-Residential Property Class be 2.0875; THAT the 1998 tax ratio for the Commercial Property Class be 1.1190; THAT the 1998 tax ratio for the Industrial Property Class be 1.3427; THAT the 1998 tax ratio for the Pipeline Property Class be 0.9190; THAT the 1998 tax ratio for the Farmlands Property Class be 0.2500; THAT the 1998 tax ratio for the Managed Forest Property Class be 0.2500; AND FURTHER THAT Bill 3971-98.F establishing these tax ratios for 1998 be given first reading at the July 14, 1998 Council Meeting. CARRIED BY-LAWS #465. Moved by Councillor West Seconded by Councillor Morris THAT leave be given the Mover and Seconder to introduce the following bill for First Reading: 3971-98.F Being a By-law to set Tax Ratios for the year 1998. AND THAT the same be taken as read a First Time. CARRIED NEW BUSINESS AMO’s Alert re: Tax Policy Deadlines – July 15, 1998; and Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing re: Regulation Made Under the Municipal Act – Tax Related Matters #466. Moved by Councillor Morris Seconded by Councillor McKenzie THAT the items of correspondence be received as information.
