SPECIAL MEETING -2 -AUGUST 18th. 1977 PROPOSED NEW BUS ROUTE & SCHEDULE Further to my letter of August 15th. 1977 regarding the problem encountered in the preparation of the above. A meeting was held on Tuesday, August 16th. 1977, those present were the Mayor, George Timpson, Councillor Earl Stewart, Travelways Limited Controller Mr. V. Webster and myself. At the meeting the inability of the bus being able to complete the Council approved route and approved time of 30 minutes was discussed and it was felt that if designated busffiops were installed, passengers would soon go to these bus stops which would then reduce the number of flag stops required. If this happens, I feel that the run can be completed in 45 minutes as now. The "bus silhouette~' signs as recommended by the M.T.C. 'I'TOUld cost us $ 6.50 each plus the installation of same. Most of these signs could possibly be installed on present sign posts or hydro poles in the Town, eliminating the cost of poles at $ 13.50 each. There are 15 recommended designated stops, therefore the cost of the signs would be $ 97.50. The cost of signs etc. plus installation are 75% subsidizable therefore the cost to the Town would be neglible. Regarding the concern over the fact that one bus will not handle the increase in passengers after September 6th. 1977 the cost of an additional bus in the morning and evening rush hours was discussed, and Mr. \~ebster of Travelways offered a second bus for $ 12.00 per hour for these two periods. In effect one extra bus doing t>~O trips in the morning and two in the evening would suffice. At present, the bus is doing three trips in the morning and four in the afternoon. The starting times of these extra trips has yet to be decided, but I would recommend the morning start at 7:20 a.m. at Orchard Heights Blvd. and Yonge, that would allovr t1'lO trips before school opening at 9:00 a.m. and would then run 35 minutes after the other bus which will start at 6:45 a.m. The afternoon bus to start at Orchard Heights Blvd. and Yonge at 3:30 p.m. I have checked with the York County Board of Education m1d this time should coincide with the times the students leave the schools in the afternoon. The additional cost of this extra bus would be $ 180.00 per, week which is $ 9,360.00 peryear, of which 25% is subsidizable leaving $ 7,020.00 out of which 25% of the treasury departments and the Transit Co-Ordinators time spent on the programme can be claimed as subsidy. This at the moment is an unknown factor, however, I estimate that this should be approximately $ 3,000.00, 25% of which is $ 750.00, therefore, the net cost to the Town would be $ 6,270.00. Based on the previous calculations that the anticipated net cost to the Town for the one bus system would be $ 10,464.00, this would bring the total net cost to $ 16,734.00. -~~-----···-·--~-~-·~-""'·"'-'~'~~·-~---· .. ------~......;.;:.._·..:..,.._, __ .,,_._'"'-<.-.b..•· .. ~-~=---->'~===~==""~~=--m'J'' ·~. ·=. ~""·""""'·~~.~="'" .... I would also suggest that the bus shelter at the senior citizens building on Orchard Heights Blvd. bemved to the north side of the Blvd. so that passengers there will be at the bus stop and not over the other side of the road. The first bus run has been scheduled as a 50 minute run so that it will be able to connect with the commuter train at 7:30 a.m. and the 5:20 p.m. start at Orchard Heights and Yonge will connect with the arrival of the commuter train at 6:05p.m., this will also be a 50 minute run. I would also suggest that the start of the new schedule and rates be delayed until September 13th. 1977 in order that adequate publication of routes and schedules be made to the public. Isaacson: E.
