Hayox Illing>rorth welcomed back Councillor Stewart from his trip to England en<i
congxatulated him on being selected as "Big Brother of the Year in York Count:;".
Hr. R. B. Rodger, Clerk, swore-in Mr. Stewart to the office of Councillor.
Mayor Illingworth expressed the Council's congratulations to the Parks &
Rec;:eation Committee, and all those concerned, on the success of the Winter
Carnival.

Councillor Miller presented a report of the Parks & Recreation Committee in
•rhich the Committee respectfully submitted the following:
A meeting of the Parks & Recreation Committee was held on Thursday, January 7,
1971 at 8:00 P.H. at 1he Comnrunity Centre.
Present '<ere: Councillor P. Miller, Vice Chairman; Councillor U. Trent, F.
Caruso, Mrs. H. Dawson, Nrs. E. De,ran, R. Hookings and R. Blick, members.
Also present were: 1-layor R. A. Illin:;~JOrth, E. Batson, B. Young, C, Duncan,
D, Pulcine and R. Wallace.

The meeting was called to discuss Operation Puck-Shy and R. Wallace and D. Pulcine
of the Operation Puck-Shy Committee presented the results of their work. Mr.
~lallace advised that the Committee has raised slightly better than $1600.00 to-
.rard the cost of installing plexi-glass around the rink at the Community Centre.
The Committee recommends that the money raised by the Operation Puck-Shy Committee
be accepted with thanks and that any further moeny required be included in the
1971 Budget of the Community Centre. The Committee also recommends that Parks
and Recreation Committee be authorized to investigate thoroughly the means of
installation of the 1/2" thick by two fee high plexi-glass,
The Committee recommends that a letter of thanks be sent to Mr. Ron Wallace end
the Operation Puck-Shy Committee on the excellent vtork done.

Parks ~Recreation Committee Report No. 4 Con~
The Cornraittee recommends that a special Committee be formed to look after the
supply and installation of the plexi-glass and that the follo>nng persons be
named to this Committee: R. Hookings, E. Batson, J. Chapman, D. Patrick, J.
La~1ton, and C .. Duncan ..

The Committee feels that auxilla~; ice-flooding equipment should be available
in the event that the tractor and its equipment should breakc;own and therefore
~1e Committee recommends that Mr. J. Chapman be authorized to fabricate a manually
operated ice-flooding machine. This machine >muld consist of a special barrel
mounted on a cast ..
3. TilJle Clock at Community £_entr~-
The Committee tias advised that the time clock and its lights have been dama3od
saveral times in the past and the Conunittee recommends that it be authorized
to study the feasibility of installing a protective screen for the clock.

The Conunittee recommends that Mr .. Batson be advised that the staff at the
Community Centre is to keep all the sidewalks and steps around the Communit:'
Centre cleared of enm< and ice.

as a delegation to discuss their proposed development on the north side of
Orchard Heights Blvd. !!'Jr. Bookman advised that since his last presentation the
Holland Valley Conservation Authority has completed the floodline mapping and
that several acres of :the site e.re ui thin the floodplain. Hr. Bm\11llan presented
a letter from the H.V.C.A. on the proposed development. Hr. Bowman presented a
ne'' plan of development for 31G units on the buildable lands.
