Mayor Davis stated he had called this special meeting to officially retire the
red ensign and dedicate the new National Flag of Canada.
Mayor Davis read the Proclamation of Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson by Her Majesty's
Command.
Elizapeth the Second, By the Grace of God of the United Kingdom, Canada and Her
other realms and territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.
To all to Whom. these presents shall come or whom the same may in anywise -_concern.
WHEREAS; the Senate of Canada, by resolution dated the 17th day of December, in the
year of 0\IJ' Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and Sixty-Four, has recommended that there
be designated, as the National Flag of Canada, the Flag hereinafter described:
AND WHEREAS the House of Commons of Canada, on the 15th day of Decmber, in the year of
Our LoPd~-one Thousand Nine Hundred and Sixty-Four, did concur in the recommendation,
made on the twenty-ninth day of October, in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Nine
Hiindred and Sixty-Four by a Special Committee thereof, that the flag, hereinafter
~~-' described, be designated as the National Flag Of Canada.
NOI~ KNOW YE that by and with the advice of Our Privy Council for Canada,
We do by this Our Royal Proclamation appoint and'declare as the National Flag of
Canada, upon, from the fifteenth day of February, in the year of Our Lord One Thousand
Nine Hundred and Sixty-Five, a red flag of the proportions two by length and one by
width, containing in its centre a white s~uare the width of the flag, bearing a single
red maple leaf, or, in heraldic terms, described as gules on a Canadian pale argent a
maple leaf of the first,
OF ALL WHICH Our Loving Subjects an~ all others whom these presents may concern are
hereby required to take notice and to govern the.mselves accordingly.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF We have caused these Otir letters to be made patent and the Gneat
Seal of Canada to be hereunto affixed.

Following the reading Auxiliary Captain William wpaght of the Aurora Salvation Army
said a prayer on the retiring of the old flag which was handed to Clerk Johnson for
safe keeping.
The Mayor then proclaimed the new flag as the National Fleg of Canada in Aurora and
dedication by prayer followed by Auxiliary Captain W~ght.
As requested by ~!ayor Davis all members of Council then made their remarks and e~Pressed thei
respect and allegiance to the new National Flag.
Council was adjourned until 8.00 p.m.
