MINUTES - Council - 20031202 TOWN OF AURORA INAUGURAL MEETING OF THE 2003-2006 COUNCIL MINUTES NO. 33-03 Council Chambers Aurora Town Hall Tuesday, December 2, 2003 7:30 p.m. INAUGURAL CEREMONY The Inaugural Ceremony was held for Members of Council elected to the 2003-2006 term of office. CALL TO ORDER Mr. Art Meeke, Town Crier, called the meeting to order. PROCESSIONAL The processional led by Piper Major Jim McGillivray and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 385, Colour Guard escorted the Members of Council into the Council Chambers. “O CANADA” Mr. Devon Dickinson sang “O Canada”. PRAYER OF DEDICATION Reverend Canon Philip Poole, Trinity Anglican Church, administered the Prayer of Dedication. ADMINISTRATION OF THE OATH OF OFFICE TO THE MAYOR AND PRESENTATION OF MAYOR'S CHAIN OF OFFICE The Town Clerk administered the Declaration of Office to Mayor Jones and presented him with the Chain of Office. ADMINISTRATION OF THE OATH OF OFFICE TO THE COUNCILLORS The Town Clerk administered the Declaration of Office collectively to the Members of Council. Aurora Inaugural Meeting Minutes No. 33-03 Page 2 Tuesday, December 2, 2003 INTRODUCTION OF THE NEW MEMBERS OF COUNCIL Mayor Jones assumed the Chair and introduced the new Members of Council. He also welcomed and thanked the special guests for their participation in the Inaugural Meeting Program. INTRODUCTION OF DIGNITARIES AND MANAGEMENT TEAM The Mayor recognized a number of dignitaries and introduced the Town of Aurora Management Team. INAUGURAL ADDRESS BY THE MAYOR Mayor Jones welcomed the special guests and acknowledged the Members of Council and their special strengths, attributes and experience that they would contribute to this new Council. Mayor Jones gave his Inaugural Address in which he outlined the upcoming initiatives and challenges of the Council for this term. The Mayor extended his appreciation for the trust of the electors. GREETINGS FROM COUNCILLORS Each Member of Council then addressed the audience and acknowledged their families and friends and indicated that they looked forward to the next term of Council. RETURN OF THE "FREEDOM OF THE TOWN" The Mayor, Honorary Commander-in-Chief of The Queen's York Rangers (1st American Regiment) R.C.A.C., presented Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Winiarski, representing the Regiment, with the "Freedom of the Town". The proclamation symbolized the freedom of the Town of Aurora originally granted by Council to the Queen’s York Rangers in 1966. The Lieutenant Colonel expressed the Regiment's appreciation for the grant of this freedom and his hopes that the new Council would once again entrust freedom to the Regiment. CLOSING REMARKS AND INVITATION TO ATTEND THE RECEPTION Brief closing remarks were provided together with an invitation to those in attendance to meet their new officials and join in some refreshments. The Mayor thanked the Staff who assisted in the preparation for the Inaugural Ceremonies.
