INAUGURAL CEREMONY
The Inaugural Ceremony was held for Members of Council and Hydro Commissioners
elected to the 1997-2000 term of office.
PROCESSIONAL
The Inaugural Meeting was called to order with a processional led by Pipe Major Jim
McGillivray and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 385, Colour Guard.
MASTER OF CEREMONIES
Mr. Marc Neeb, Chief Administrative Officer, served as Master of Ceremonies.
"0 CANADA"
Ms. Lindsay Hunter, student, led the singing of "0 Canada".
PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Reverend Canon Philip Poole, Trinity Anglican Church, offered the Prayer of Dedication.
SALUTATIONS
Adam Mobbs, Rachel Slaven and Stan Valade of the Youth Advisory Committee spoke on
behalf of the youth in the community. The mandate of the Youth Advisory Committee
and their role in being active partners in the future was explained. Council was thanked
for their support with this initiative.
INTRODUCTION OF FORMER MAYORS AND OTHER ATTENDEES
Former Mayors Nisbet; Illingworth, Buck, and Timpson who were in attendance and
former Mayors West and Jones elected to the 1997-2000 term of office and participating
in the Inaugural Ceremony were recognized.
A number of other attendees present that represented various community groups and .
organizations and Business Ambassadors for the Town of Aurora were introduced.

INTRODUCTION OF COUNCIL MEMBERS
AND HYDRO COMMISSIONERS
Mr. Art Meeke, Town Crier, cried in the Mayor and Members of Council and Hydro
Commissioners.
DECLARATIONS OF OFFICE
MAYOR. MEMBERS OF COUNCIL
AND HYDRO COMMISSIONERS
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 385, Colour Guard presented the colours.
Mr. Lawrence Allison, Municipal Clerk, administered the required Declarations of Office
and Oaths of Allegiance to the Mayor, Members of Council, and Hydro Commissioners.
It was indicated that Hydro Commissioner Weller had sent his regrets as he was not able
to attend this Inaugural Meeting. Each Member subscribed to the Declaration and Oath,
following which the Municipal Clerk advised those present that the incoming Council was
duly constituted and presented the members of elected office.
Upon conclusion of the Declarations of Office the Colour Guard exited the Council
Chambers.
MAYOR'S INAUGURAL ADDRESS
The Chief Administrative Officer then introduced Mayor Tim Jones who was serving his
nineteenth year on Council and second term as Mayor for the Town of Aurora.
Mayor Jones welcomed the special guests and acknowledged the Members of Council and
their special strengths, attributes and experience that they would contribute to this new
Council. Mayor Jones gave his Inaugural Address in which the upcoming initiatives and
challenges of the Council were outlined for this term. The Mayor extended his appreciation
for the trust of the electors.
A very brief business meeting of Council was then called to order.

1994-1997 Term of Office
#758. Moved by Councillor Hartwell Seconded by Councillor McKenzie
THAT this Council, as its first official act, convey to the Members of the
1994 through 1997 Council appreciation for their outstanding service and
commitment to the citizens of the Town of Aurora.

Orientation Program for Council Members
1997 -2000 Term of Office
#759. Moved by Councillor West Seconded by Councillor Morris
THAT the Council Orientation Program to be held on the evenings of
December 3, 4 and 9, 1997 for Members of Council elected to the 1997 -
2000 term of office be confirmed.

Committee of the Whole Meeting
December 1 0. 1997
#760. Moved by Councillor Hinder Seconded by Councillor Griffith
THAT the Clerk be directed to convene a Committee of the Whole Meeting
on December 1 0, 1997 at 7:30 p.m. in the Holland Room to be chaired by
Mayor Jones to review a number of items requiring the attention of this
Council.

Statutory and Local Board Appointments
#761. Moved by Councillor Hogg Seconded by Councillor Healy
THAT Staff be directed to place an advertisement in the local newspaper
· soliciting applicants who may wish to serve on the Town of A!Jrora
Statutory and Local Boards including the Committee of Adjustment,
Property Standards Committee, Aurora Public Library Board, Local
Architectur;:~l Conservation Advisory Committee (LACAC), and the Aurora
Cemetery Corporation for the upcoming term.

RETURN OF THE "FREEDOM OF THE TOWN"
Captain Robert Kennedy, Unit Information Officer, representing The Queen's York Rangers
(1st American Regiment) R.C.A.C., returned the "Freedom of the Town" to Mayor Jones.
The proclamation and flag symbolized the freedom of the Town of Aurora originally
granted by Council to the Queen's York Rangers in 1966. Captain Kennedy expressed the
Squadron's appreciation for the grant of this freedom and his hopes that the new Council
would once again entrust freedom to the Squadron.

The members of the Senior Management Team were introduced.

Brief closing remarks were provided together with an invitation to those in attendance to
remain and meet their new officials. The Chief Administrative Officer advised that upon
the conclusion of the formal part of the Inaugural Ceremony that Mayor Jones would light
the Town of Aurora Christmas Tree that was donated by the Town of Aurora Staff
Foundation (TOAST). The Chief Administrative Officer thanked the Staff who had
prepared for the Inaugural Ceremonies.
RECESSIONAL
Pipe Major Jim McGillivray led the recessional from the Council Chambers.
CONTINUATION OF INAUGURAL CEREMONIES
The formal part of the Inaugural Meeting was concluded and Council, Staff, and guests
retired to the Front Entrance Plaza of the Aurora Town Hall for light refreshments. The
Upper Canada Chordsmen were present to provide a Musical Interlude.
