Moved by Council/or McKenzie Seconded by Councillor Griffith THAT Council approve the purchase of a playground system at a total cost of $41,717.75 from Little Tykes Canada, formerly Paris Playground Equipment. CARRIED PW96-036-222 -Tender Award -Murray Drive Reconstruction from Yonge Street to Wiles Court. Tender No. PW-1996-26 #508. · Moved by Councillor Healy Seconded by Councillor Sorley THAT Tender PW-1996-26, Reconstruction of Murray Drive, Yonge Street to Wiles Court, Town of Aurora, be awarded to Corm Construction Sewer and Watermain Ltd. at it's tender price of $31 0,489.16; \ THAT an Engineering and Contingency allowance of $31,980.38 be approved for this project; THAT an allowance for utility relocation works of $5,000.00 be approved for this project; THAT the cost of the replacement of the existing watermain of $94,242.94 be funded from the water/sewer reserve; and THAT the project costs for roadworks be charged to Account No. 3518 as provided for in the 1996 budget. CARRIED Aurora Heights Public School re: Request to Hood Parking Signs for a School Curriculum Night. September 25. 1996 #511. Moved by Councillor Healy Seconded by Councillor Sorley THAT the parking signs on the east side of Tecumseh Drive be hooded from the intersection of Jasper Drive north to the northerly limit of the bus loading . zone on September 25, 1996 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; and THAT tlie concept of the schools providing direct responsibility for hooding the signs be referred to the Municipal Operations Committee for consideration. CARRIED UNFINISHED BUSINESS Memorandum from Chief Administrative Officer re: Proposed Town of Aurora Responses to the "Who Does What" Panel #512. Moved by Councillor Sorley Seconded by Councillor Griffith THAT the draft Town response to the "Who Does What" Panel be endorsed and a copy be forwarded to Mr. Crombie with a cover letter from Mayor Jones. · CARRIED At this point in the meeting, Councillor Healy declared an interest in the Panel's correspondence related to proposed changes to the Municipal Elections Act as they affect qualification of school board candidates, due to employment with the York Region Board of Education and did not take part in or vote on any questions in this regard or attempt in any way to influence the voting on such questions. #513. Moved by Councillor Sorley Seconded by Councillor Wallace THAT Council not support the proposed changes set out in Recommendation No. 5 pertaining to qualifications for a candidate in the Municipal Election; and THAT the Panel be advised that the proposal that qualifications remain as the status quo vis a vis school board candidates should be reexamined. CARRIED Moved by Councillor Sorley Seconded by Councillor Wallace THAT Council advise the Panel that it does not support the aspect of Recommendation No. 31 re: Municipal Elections Act requiring candidates who spend or raise $1 0,000 or more be required to file an audited financial statement in the prescribed form. Moved by Councillor Griffith Seconded by Councillor Sorley THAT a Committee including representatives from Leisure Services, Fire, By- law and the Public Health. Department be formed to have another look at the Town of Aurora's Refreshment Policy; and THAT the Committee prepare a report to the Municipal Operations Committee. CARRIED BA96-007-223 -Canadian Tire-Construction Activitv #518. Moved by Councillor Wallace Seconded by Councillor Griffith THAT report BA96-007 be received as information. THAT Canadian Tire be required to request relief prior to carrying out future construction which will_ contravene the noise by-law; and THAT staff continue to enforce the Town of Aurora Noise By-law. NEW BUSINESS Devins Drive Public School re: Request Permission to Lift Parking Restrictions for Various Events at the School #522. Moved by Councillor Griffith Seconded by Councillor McKenzie · THAT permission be granted to lift the parking restriction on Devins Drive for the various events on the dates as specified in the correspondence.
