MINUTES - Council - 19941206/'' TOWN OF AURORA INAUGURAL MEETING 1994-1997 COUNCIL NO. 35-94 PROCESSIONAL Council Chambers Aurora Town Hall Tuesday, December 6, 1994 7:30p.m. MINUTES The Inaugural Meeting was called to order with a processional led by Pipe Major Bob Dunsmore, White Heather Pipes and Drums, and the singing of the National Anthem. MASTER OF CEREMONIES Mr. Dick Illingworth, a former Mayor of the Town, served as Master of Ceremonies. DECLARATIONS OF OFFICE Mr. Lawrence Allison, Municipal Clerk, administered the required Declarations of Office and Oaths of Allegiance to the Mayor, Members of Council, and Hydro Commissioners. Each Member subscribed to the Declaration and Oath, following which the Municipal Clerk advised those present that the incoming Council was duly constituted. PRAYER OF DEDICATION Father Phillip Poole, of the Trinity Anglican Church, offered the prayer of dedication. INTRODUCTION OF COUNCIL MEMBERS AND HYDRO COMMISSIONERS Mayor Jones introduced each member of Council and both Hydro Commissioners. INTRODUCTION OF FORMER MAYORS Mayor Jones recognized former Mayors West and Illingworth. MAYOR'S INAUGURAL ADDRESS Mayor Jones provided those present with his inaugural address in which the upcoming initiatives of the Council were outlined, the contributions and experience of predecessors were acknowledged, and appreciation for the trust of the electors was provided. Aurora Inaugural Council Minutes No. 35-94 Tuesday, December 6, 1994 MUSICAL SELECTIONS Page 2 The "Pink Champagne" Quartet, representing the York Highlands Chorus, offered a number of musical selections based on friendship and cooperation. RETURN OF THE "FREEDOM OF THE TOWN" Lieutenant Colonel D.G.A. McKenzie, CD, Commanding Officer of the Queen's York Rangers (1st American Regiment) R.C.A.C., returned the "Freedom of the Town" to Mayor Jones. This proclamation and flag symbolize the freedom of the Town, originally granted by Council to the Rangers in 1966. Lieutenant Colonel McKenzie expressed the squadron's appreciation for the grant of this freedom and his hopes that the new Council would once again entrust freedom to the squad. Mayor Jones returned the proclamation of freedom to the Queen's York Rangers. CLOSING REMARKS Mr. Illingworth offered brief closing remarks and invited those in attendance to remain and meet their new officials while enjoying refreshments in the Skylight Gallery. THE QUEEN The "Pink Champagne" Quartet lead those in attendance in the singing of "God Save the Queen". RECESSIONAL The Queen's York Rangers led the recessional from Council Chambers. The meeting concluded at 8:30 p.m.
